I’m proud of being politically correct

According to the definition found in the online Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the term ‘politically correct’ is an adjective that is defined as “: agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people”.

I interpret that to mean that I’m using my intelligence and humanity to be respectful and sensitive to the needs of others. This has somehow fallen out of popularity these days, if one is to believe the ravings of Donald Trump and his thousands of fairly affluent white racist followers. According to an article I just read by Kevin Dunn who quotes Paul Krugman in an article in MotherJones , “Paul Krugman says he thinks Donald Trump’s supporters are basically just tea partiers” evidenced by, “the rapturous response Trump gets whenever he says he has no time for political correctness.”

How did we go from being polite to one another, respecting intellectual thought, and defending the rights of those who have been marginalized by the white male power elite, to the exact opposite? When did it become popular to celebrate intolerance, bigotry, and racism in the name of personal or religious freedom? To my mind it has always been that way. It is part of the American psyche to embrace casual racism, crass materialism, relentless self-aggrandizement, and vulgarity on an epic scale. Only by hard work, self examination, and personal growth do we walk into the light and become better human beings. Unfortunately this is something many Americans don’t want to do, fear, or are just too lazy to make the attempt.  Donald Trump and his minions of angry white lower middle class supporters scares the bejeezus out of me and perhaps that is exactly what they want. To scare and bully the Liberal left into silence and inaction, it isn’t going to happen! There is only one way to deal with a bully and his followers, confront them head on.
